This is the latest state of the lowrider concept model.  Almost every surface has been remodeled for sake of theme continuity.  The cleaner designs require focus on subtle flowing lines and shapes to make their presence known.  Not always easy to model.  The next step is a "paintover" for the rear to help complete the design and then modeling the chosen theme.

Not work I show often but this blog is about showing work eh?  Hotrods generally have something other lampposts and gas pumps standing next to them and there seems to be a pinup craze of late.  When I need a break from the routine I do quick figurative work.  Most of these are ballpoint pen and marker on regular copier paper.  I usually keep it to just greys and a color.  These were studies into different types of stances graphics and just trying to figure out what I like.  I may add these to my shaders in my digital math renderings.

Mistake or Happy Accident.  I have an Epson 4900 printer.  It's amazing when it works properly and expensive when it doesn't.  I've been experimenting with turning some of my images into "salable" prints.  There are eleven ink cartridges to produce or capture a wide array of colors.  In this case the black stopped working or filtering and I ended up with green in the areas that black should be.  Interesting I thought and worthy of a post.

Enjoy!

Been currently working on math for a lowrider concept.  Here is where I am with the surfaces.  This model has had several iterations to get to this point and is more about proportions then anything.  The one image shows the model "as is" in Alias or what I would call an "underlay" and the other has a "paintover" I did in Photoshop with some graphics and trim to help visualize a completed design.  Does this mean this is what the final front end theme will be?  Probably not but perhaps in this direction.  Most people don't understand that design is an iterative process until the very end.  The sketches aren't just for the sake of art but is an innovation of ideas that allows us to a new something.

Enjoy!

Decided to start trying to share "looser" artwork.  This was a quick sketch that was done in about 20 minutes.  The reuse of wheels and big brushes with high contrast colors allows this to be sketched this fast.  Not always easy for me to share my loose work.  Working in the industry means you're are always doing presentation pieces at various levels of finish.  The industry as of late has moved back to quick meaningful sketches to encourage new design creativity.  Enjoy!-Dave

Lately, I've been looking at some of the shapes of the 70's muscle cars.  This image represents some of the design trends coming our way and was meant as a "demo" sketch for my class at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
